Participation in the 19th Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity & Visit to the Jeju ASEAN Hall
제19회 제주포럼 참석 및 제주 아세안홀 방문
H.E. Kim Jae-shin, Secretary General of the ASEAN-Korea Centre (AKC), delivered a congratulatory remark on 29 May at the special session, ‘Jeju ASEAN+α Roundtable: Acting Together for a Shared Prosperous Future,’ of the 19th Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity. He congratulated the successful organization of the Forum and shared the role of the AKC in fostering partnership with ASEAN.
* Jeju Forum: As a public forum launched in 2001 for dialogue that not only shares visions for peace in the Korean Peninsula, East Asia, and the world but also seeks creative solutions through international cooperation, the 19th Forum was held on 29-31 May under the theme of “Acting Together for a Better World.”
H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, Secretary-General of ASEAN was also present at the Forum and addressed a keynote speech. He emphasized the importance of cooperation at a subnational level for sustainable peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region to leverage joint strength in achieving mutual goals.
On 30 May, H.E. Dr. Kao Kim Hourn accompanied by H.E. Kim Jae-shin took the opportunity to visit the Jeju ASEAN Hall, which was launched by the AKC in September 2022. During the visit, they both concurred that the Jeju ASEAN Hall would continue to serve as a platform to introduce and promote ASEAN’s cultural and tourism resources, enhance mutual understanding of ASEAN-Korea relations, and strengthen people-to-people exchanges.
김재신 한-아세안센터 사무총장은 5월 29일 진행된 제19회 평화와 번영을 위한 제주포럼*의 ‘제주 아세안+α 라운드테이블: 공동번영의 미래를 위한 협력’ 세션 축사를 통해 포럼의 성공적인 개최를 축하하고, 아세안과의 협력 강화를 위한 센터의 역할을 소개하였습니다.
* 제주포럼: 2001년 출범한, 한반도와 동아시아 및 세계 평화를 위한 비전을 공유하고 창의적인 국제협력 방안을 모색하는 국제공공포럼으로, 제19회 포럼은 “더 나은 세상을 위한 협력”이라는 주제로 5월 29-31일 3일 간 개최
특히 동 포럼에는 까으 끔 후은 아세안 사무총장도 참석하여 기조연설을 통해 인태 지역의 지속가능한 평화와 번영을 위한 지방외교의 중요성을 강조하며 서로의 목표를 달성하기 위해 공동의 힘을 활용하는 것이 중요하다고 강조했습니다.
다음 날인 5월 30일 김재신 사무총장과 까으 끔 후은 사무총장은 한-아세안센터가 2022년 9월 개관한 제주 아세안홀의 상설전시를 함께 관람하며, 앞으로도 제주 아세안홀이 아세안의 문화관광 자원을 홍보하고, 한-아세안 관계에 대한 상호 이해 제고 및 인적교류 증진을 위한 플랫폼으로 활용될 수 있기를 기대하였습니다.
