Greetings! Eunseo, the 20th Blog Reporter of the AKC, is back with an article on Remakes of K-drama in ASEAN.
If you are familiar with K-drama or K-pop, you must’ve heard of the term K-wave or Hallyu. Started with the spread of K-pop and K-drama, K-wave has become the term that indicates the increased global popularity of South Korean culture overseas.
In particular, the K-drama has undoubtedly led the K-wave in the ASEAN region. According to the survey conducted by the Korea Communications Commission in 2019, two out of three viewers in five ASEAN countries (Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, and Thailand) have experienced Korean broadcasting content, and K-drama is the most popular among them. For instance, the average rating of the drama ‘Descendants of the Sun’ was 40% in ASEAN.
Reflecting the popularity of K-drama in ASEAN, you can easily find the remakes of the beloved K-dramas to suit local viewers in Southeast Asia.
