From May to November 2020, the ASEAN-Korea Centre held the “ASEAN-Korea Excellent Design Contest” in cooperation with the Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP) and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency (VIETRADE) with an aim to promote ASEAN’s unique packaging designs. The Contest was open to all ASEAN companies and freelancer designers, calling for packaging design entries for consumer goods such as agro-fisheries, F&B, healthcare, beauty products, and others.

As a result, nine best packaging designs were selected among 46 entries from 29 design firms and freelance designers of nine ASEAN Member States (Brunei, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam) by a panel of judges composed of 10 design experts in ASEAN and Korea. The Grand Prize went to TRIA, a Singaporean food packaging company that devised a convenient package for fast food products. A Filipino rice company, Kalinga Food Treat and the Singaporean branding company, Creativeans received the First Prize for a craft box for rice and a DIY Chinese tea preparation kit respectively. In addition, Together We Design (Philippines), Apaul (Thailand), and Real Beans Coffee (Vietnam) were also awarded for their creative designs.

The Award ceremony, held on 24 November in Seoul, was attended by ASEAN-Korea Centre Secretary Lee Hyuk and the Contest judges. VIETRADE, ASEAN Ambassadors in Korea and the ASEAN participants joined the ceremony online. The winning designs can be checked out in the video below.
